5 things to know before you install Windows 7

Windows 7 RC will soon be available as a download for all, and as such there are a few things you may want to know before you decide to go ahead and install it on your PC.

Things to know before installing Windows 7

1) This is a pre-release build and as such, should NOT be installed on any computers and/or production systems where high availability is required. If you do not have access to a second computer, you may want to dual boot with another operating system.
2) In all cases, please make sure your critical information is backed up prior to installation. Windows Easy Transfer provides an easy means for you to transfer files, user and application settings from one computer running Windows to another.
3) Upgrades from Windows 7 Beta are blocked. Microsoft recommends that you NOT work around this issue. Valid test scenarios are clean installs and Windows Vista upgrades. Server upgrades from beta to RC are supported.

Upgrading from a previous beta build is not supported. The following Operating Systems are fully supported for upgrading, however:
Windows Vista SP1
Windows Vista SP2
Windows Server 2008
Windows Server 2008 SP2
4) Problem reporting links have been removed from the UI to more closely approach a “Final product” experience.
But you can provide feedback by ‘Run-ning’ the following command to start the Feedback Tool:
rundll32.exe FeedbackTool.dll,ShowWizard
5) You should only use keys obtained from Microsoft. You may reuse your product key from the Windows 7 beta build 7000 for the RC.
I’m sure you will enjoy installing and using Windows 7 RC. Installation is expected to take 20-30 minutes. Happy
